I'm 45 years old. Why is AARP haunting me. They keep sending me mailers. I cannot join until 50 years. They are making me feel old.

Next I will have to start flying old man LSA airplanes. Just kidding to all you LSA owners. :wink2:

This is probably something everyone who has scrutinized the FAA definition of Light Sport Aircraft already knows, but the speed constraint has a couple qualifiers (in bold) that aircraft makers have worked around:

"A maximum airspeed in level flight with maximum continuous power (VH) of not more than 120 knots CAS under standard atmospheric conditions at sea level."

Some aircraft like Sonex advertise their LSA as flying faster than 120 kts at higher altitude. I would also expect Rotax 914 and Viking turbocharged engine powered LSA to exceed their sea level speeds by a healthy margin when up high.
