Since it is a trace gas in the atmosphere it isn't normally worthwhile to extract it from there; the wikipedia entry above also mentions several ways it it produced for industry.

The symptoms of carbon dioxide poisoning such as headache, lethargy and nausea can be mistaken for other more common illnesses such as the flu.
