Flew to Flabob Airport near Riverside CA on 21 Apr 23. This is home to EAA Chapter #1 and a well known fun airport with a lot of experimentals and home builders. It is also a very funky airport physically with an odd assortment of buildings and taxiways (just have a look on Google Earth). This was a side trip from my flight the to Southwest Aviation Weather Safety Workshop which has held in nearby Rancho Cucamonga.
Flabob has about 3 DC-3s visible. You can hire a ride in one of them.
Ray Stits with his "Sky Baby" - the world's smallest biplane.
They have a replica of the Wright Flyer just west of the restaurant. I should claim this photo is artistically soft focused (but actually it was just grease from the french fries on the camera lense before I realized what had happened.)
See what I mean be funking buildings?
This is just east of the restaurant and was originally a Blue Bonnet ice cream stand in Riverside. Apparently Flavio purchased it and grafted it onto the side of a hangar.
Flight home in the evening the next day. Beautiful light over the desert east of Palm Springs and west of Blythe. This has always been my favorite time of day.
The sunsets the southwest is known for.
