On occasion I've let total strangers who I never meet do the piloting. They are vetted by other total strangers who I've also never met. The one set of strangers confirms for me that the other set of strangers are safe to fly with.
But no free ride either - they all ask I pay up front. If I'm lucky they give me something to nibble on and a complimentary beverage. But only after they've checked me out prior to getting on their aircraft. See, I'm a total stranger to them....
