Time for a new computer

My old Dell that i bought freshman year of college has died and i'm not sure it is worth trying to fix it. This old gateway laptop that i've been using is OK but it has some sort of bug that causes random internet browser crashes and the screen doesn't hold itself up anymore.

Needs:

Recommended system
- 1.5 GHz CPU or higher
- 512 Mb RAM or more
- 128 Mb nVidia or ATI graphics card
- 600 Mb free disk space
- 800x600 desktop resolution
- Serial Port
- USB Port

Other than that the main purpose for the laptop will be to run SeeYou, word processing, and the internet. A good balance between portability and screen size is needed. Suggestions oh computer wizards?

Sorry Fanboys, no Macs please.

in order to plug my Oudie flight computer into the computer and make it work with Condor a Serial port is required. I've heard a lot of hit and miss experience with usb to serial converters. it seems that guys with USB only have to go through a lot of rigamarole to get their flight computers to connect with condor.
USB <--> Serial adapters are so inexpensive (some under $10) that you should simply buy one and try it out. If it doesn't work, toss it and buy another maker's adapter and try again. What is your time worth?
