The last time I looked a majority of US citizens thought we needed the TSA and they served a useful function. The biggest problem is of course that the average person flys commercially twice a year so doesn't have much incentive to do anything about this - other than be annoyed twice a year.

It is interesting how much post back there was when the FAA wanted to amend Part 380 Public Charters. My guess is that covers a decent number of frequent flyers and then the advent of paid private screening for a fee will also assuage the concerns of frequent flyers.
