At work, I just received a gift card. On the front of the packaging, it says "The American Express Gift Card No monthly fees. Funds do not expire." and other stuff. On the back, it repeats the same: "100% gift, 0% monthly fees. NO monthly fees NO expiration of funds NO lost value" plus some other stuff.
Also on the back, but sideways and in smaller letters: "Valid Thru 03/2019 A $4.95 Purchase Charge will be applied at the checkstand."
Does that mean that I will be charged $4.95 or does it mean that my boss paid an extra $4.95 for the card when he bought it? Also, does it mean that the funds don't expire, they simply vanish in 2019?
