Corruption is not something unique to politicians, nor has politics or any other profession ever been free from it.

Voting for someone other than a R or D is, in most cases, throwing your vote away. It also usually means a better chance of the LEAST desired major party candidate winning the election. The reality is that we have a two party system, and voting for the "other" guy sends exactly no message to either of the major parties. The best chance to influence the party and the candidate selection is through the major party primary process.

By not voting, you're both forfeiting your civil right AND your legitimate voice in choosing the candidate who will cause the least amount of damage while in office. I can't say that I understand the logic in that decision.

Read up on the history of the Whigs.

In the mean time, please take your dubious reasoning to the Spin Zone. I am libertarian. Neither of the two major parties is libertarian. There is absolutely nothing to be gained by my voting for either party. I have voted for Libertarian party candidates for years.

"Least desired major party candidate winning" is self-referential and historical nonsense. It is contradicted by the emergence of the Republican and Whig parties. Had your reasoning been accepted over the years, we'd all still be choosing between the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans.
