I heard rumors of this system years ago. This and a couple of RCA ads are about all of the concrete information I've found. Looks like RCA made a huge bet and lost.

Boats radar signature is much larger than planes due to the water wake created by the boat which is reflected by the radar beam. A boat in motion is easier to detect than one standing still. Also there is less antenna size restriction on a boat than on airplanes. Many boats carry a radar reflector that looks like a round multiside mirror to enhance their detection at sea.

That sounds like older radar.

The latest marine radar technology is what Lowrance is calling broadband radar. http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/Radar/

I think a variant of the Lowrance broadband marine radar could be a nice enhancement for GA aircraft.
