    Painting a yoke?

After a quick search around the net I'm thinking maybe not paint but cover with foam like this guy did from this thread: https://backcountrypilot.org/forum/coating-or-covering-yokes-24068 Material: https://www.mcmaster.com/1566N106/ Picture of results (presumably taken 7 years after...

    Painting a yoke?

The yokes on the 1956 C-172 I bought could use some painting but I'm not sure how to best go about that. Am I allowed to remove them to paint them? Should I try to strip the existing paint? Prime before painting? Or just paint over what is already there?

How long do your batteries last?

We have two cars but only one gets used regularly. The batteries in the mostly unused car were unable to hold a charge after only a couple years. When I bought a battery tender/minder for that car things improved tremendously.

    Camguard?

Coincidence that you bring it up since I planned to use it. Aviation Consumer and Mike Busch ran tests and its corrosion resistance seems confirmed and reduced wear: https://www.aviationconsumer.com/maintenance/camguard-oil-test-results-require-time/

Have you used a mobile phone in a small plane?

Perhaps you mean 47 CFR § 22.925 Prohibition on airborne operation of cellular telephones.? Yes, that makes it illegal for everyone to use a cell phone while airborne. That persists because of social pressure, not for technical reasons. It has now been 10 years since this happened: "The Federal...

Have you used a mobile phone in a small plane?

Unpredictable interference is a concern, but the small planes I fly have few fancy electronics. My phone and tablet computer typically being the most sophisticated electronics on board. As I understand it, Airplane Mode shuts off Cellular, Wifi, Bluetooth, and sometimes even the GPS receiver...

Have you used a mobile phone in a small plane?

When I pilot a plane I don't turn on airplane mode on my iPhone - I can still receive and make calls, though I've never done either (yet). On commercial flights I turn on airplane mode because they ask. Not because I think it will cause problems with aircraft systems. After all, my iPhone has a...

Oil screen on O-300 vs oil filter adapter

The engine has under 1600 hours since last overhaul. Oil analysis trend looks good to my untrained eyes (attached if interested.) The plane will probably be flown between 100 to 200 hours per year (5 person flying club.) With only a screen the oil changes would be about every 25 hours. My...

Oil screen on O-300 vs oil filter adapter

Expect to close on the purchase of a 1956 Cessna 172 soon. It has the original Continental O-300 with an oil screen. Was thinking of installing a spin-on oil filter adapter, but not sure of all the pros and cons.

Question on liability of leasing a private airplane

I plan to lease a personally owned airplane to an incorporated non-profit flying club for its exclusive use. I've been pondering what needs to be done, if anything, to limit my liability if harm is caused by the airplane while used by a club member. According to 49 U.S. Code § 44112 - Limitation...
