This sent to me by a friend in Norway. What do other helo pilots think of this clearance from the wires? As the second picture shows, the pilot chose to land like this rather than a bit further away.
That was my first thought as well. But the friend who sent this and had just gotten off the heli confirmed that yes the pilot flew it right under the wires! It might just be camera perspective trickery.
Well, I suppose I can now comment on a picture I took. I would say it was about ten meters away from the power lines. The issue that worried me is how wind can move through these Fjords. This sent to me by a friend in Norway. What do other helo pilots think of this clearance from the wires? You’re the friend in Norway? Cool. Or maybe this time of year, cold.Well, I suppose I can now comment on a picture I took. I would say it was about ten meters away from the power lines. The issue that worried me is how wind can move through these Fjords.
Lol, I wish I lived in a temperate coastal fjord, I live in Wyoming where it is way colder. I was backpacking in Norway and took a scenic flight. Generally I am little weary of such tourist flights, but thought that maybe in Northern Europe the safety parameters would be better than they are elsewhere. The pilot and helicopter also served offshore platforms so I figured it was not some kid in an old R44, but the wires were a little worrisome. You’re the friend in Norway? Cool. Wow. I’d risk death to take a flight like that. At least when I was young and adventuresome. Fantastic picture, I can‘t imagine what it looked like in real life.Lol, I wish I lived in a temperate coastal fjord, I live in Wyoming where it is way colder.
